Budgets

Per-category budgets on weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly, or custom date ranges, with budget carry-over and a budget-vs-actual report.

Budgets in Bluecoins are per-category — you set a limit for a category (for example “Groceries” or “Transport”), and the app tracks how much of it you have spent over the period. Budgets live in the Categories feature, where each category screen is paired with its own budget setup and budget report.

Setting a budget

Budget setup lets you configure the budget amount and the period it covers, for each category you want to track. The available periods are:

  • Weekly
  • Monthly
  • Quarterly
  • Yearly
  • Custom date ranges — pick any start and end date, so a budget can align with a trip, a project, or an odd billing cycle (v13 added custom date ranges for reports and budgets).

Budget carry-over

A budget can carry over its unused (or overspent) balance into the next period. That way a lean month’s savings can cover a heavier month, and you track progress across periods rather than resetting to zero every time.

Budget report

The budget report visualizes budget versus actual — what you planned for each category versus what you actually spent — with drill-down into the underlying transactions. If a category is running over, you can open it to see exactly which entries pushed it past the limit.

Daily expense report

Alongside the budget view, each category has a daily expense report that breaks down spending by day, with a summary-stats tab. It answers questions like “how much did I spend on food this week, day by day?” without exporting anything.

Where to find budgets in the app

  • Budget setup — configure per-category budget amounts and periods.
  • Budget report — the budget-vs-actual visualization with drill-down.
  • Daily report / Daily stats — per-day expense breakdown for a category.

Because budgets are per-category, the place to start is the categories list: pick the category you want to control, set its budget, and let the report show you how the actual spending lines up against it.
