Online sync

Online sync keeps your Bluecoins data backed up and lets you use the app on more than one device — or share one budget with your family. Sync is built around a cloud folder: you choose a provider, link your account, and Bluecoins backs up and restores the database through it. Online sync is a premium feature.

Providers

Bluecoins syncs through three cloud providers:

• Google Drive
• Dropbox
• OneDrive

You pick one as your backup provider in the Online Sync settings. Your data lives in a cloud folder you control, and whoever you share that folder with can enter expenses — that is the family-sharing model: one shared folder, several people contributing entries.

What the Online Sync screen does

• Choose backup provider — pick Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive.
• Link backup — connect (or disconnect) your cloud account. A connection-status row shows which cloud account is linked.
• Online backup — push a backup to the cloud now.
• Online restore — list the backup files in the cloud and restore the one you want.
• Upload attachments — toggle automatic upload of transaction attachments to the cloud.
• Automatically sync data — toggle quick sync so data syncs without you thinking about it.
• Wi-Fi only — restrict syncing to Wi-Fi connections, to save mobile data.

Silent cloud login runs at startup, so a linked account reconnects without prompting. The app drawer also shows the cloud connection status so you can see at a glance whether sync is live.

Manual and automatic backup

Backup is available both ways:

• Manual — one tap backs up to the cloud; restore lets you pick from the backup files stored there.
• Automatic — with auto-sync enabled, the app syncs data on its own, and background workers handle scheduled local backups and cleanup as well.

How the providers work

Each provider is a separate integration in the app:

• Google Drive uses the Google Drive REST API with Google Credential Manager sign-in on Android 14+ and a legacy sign-in path on older versions.
• Dropbox uses the Dropbox SDK.
• OneDrive uses the Microsoft OneDrive integration.

All three implement the same sync operations, so switching providers does not change how sync behaves — only where the folder lives.

Sync safety notes

• Restoring from the cloud replaces local data with the backup you pick, so the restore screen lists the available files before you choose.
• If the app cannot reach the cloud, it tells you rather than silently failing.
• Syncing is per-user: your cloud account credentials are used only to reach your own folder.
